Community Connections

Cheyenne Ironman leads a group doing environmental work at Wipazoka Wakpa, Sioux Valley Dakota Nation.

Equitable Engagement.

The IKC works to plan and and implement equitable engagement with Indigenous people in grasslands. We are committed to supporting the kinship and learning between Indigenous people, and we are working to reduce barriers to connections and participation in the IKC.

Community Conversations.

The IKC is leading Community Conversations with people that are working to support the wellbeing of grasslands and their Indigenous people.

Responses will be used to inform IKC strategies to advance the social and ecological wellbeing of Indigenous people. We will also create communication materials (e.g., articles, blogs, infographics, videos, etc.) from responses, and the materials may be shared with the general public and the environmental/conservation fields, as appropriate.

We hope that this project will amplify Indigenous work and perspectives in grasslands to build Indigenous partnerships, advance equitable solutions, challenge historical erasure, and increase support and resources for Indigenous efforts.

If you would like to learn more about or participate in the Community Conversations, please reach out to Katia at carranzakatiap@gmail.com if you have any ideas, questions, or concerns.

You can also take the Community Conversations survey found at this link if you would like to provide your responses through written form.
